Oftentimes, I ask my clients to journal between our coaching sessions. This could be in the form of writing, typing or using voice dictation to capture your thoughts. Sometimes, it’s very specific journaling. Other times, it’s very basic.
The bottom line is – there are MANY benefits to journaling!
Here are my 5 favorite benefits of journaling:
1. Little time for a big reward
You don’t have to journal long to see the benefits. If you journal for just 10 minutes a day, you can accomplish so much! It’s one of the few activities that you can do for just a few minutes daily that will give you so much reward.
2. Benefits your mindset
Journaling helps free up space in your mind. Think of it like organizing a drawer or cleaning out your garage. I like to call this an exercise that “frees up real estate in our brains.” Instead of cleaning out and organizing space in your home, you’re cleaning out and organizing space in your mind which will give you an immediate result.
3. Allows you to self-reflect
When you see your thoughts on paper, you can process them at a different level. This helps you manage your emotions better.
4. Helps you visualize your goals
Once you write down your goals and physically see them on paper, they become easier to achieve.
5. Improves your memory
Clearing out your hard drive makes more room for memory space on your computer, right? It’s similar to our minds. By writing down our thoughts and emotions, we free up space in our heads. This helps improve our overall memory because like most things that we free up, organize or declutter, our brains simply function better with more space.
Now, it’s your turn!
Make a daily routine of journaling about anything that comes to mind. You can journal by writing, typing or using voice dictation. If you set aside 5-10 minutes each day to do this, I am confident you will see quick results like the ones I listed above.
